Episode No. 3 - The Swan's SongEpisode No. 4 - A Dignified Burial
The deputy chief of police of Arezzo, Fosca Innocenti (Vanessa Incontrada), has always been in love with Cosimo (Francesco Arca) and lives in a farmhouse in Montecchio Vesponi in the province of Arezzo, specifically in Castiglion Fiorentino. Each episode begins with the beautiful sunflower fields and unspoiled nature of this area, less than thirty minutes' drive from our hotel. If you can stay longer in the city, Valdichiana is definitely worth a day trip. You can visit beautiful villages like Castiglion Fiorentino, Cortona, Lucignano, and Monte San Savino, just to name a few.
The main location of the TV series Fosca Innocenti is surely the fabulous Piazza Grande, definitely the most beautiful and suggestive place in the entire city, where the police station is located in the fiction. A square with a strong slope where all sides are small works of art, palaces built in different eras create a stage of breathtaking beauty; there is no main viewpoint; every corner is to be discovered. Piazza Grande is in the heart of the historic center of Arezzo. Some curiosities: The police station is inside the Palazzo della Fraternita dei Laici, which has more than 700 years of history. Next to the police station, you can see the apse of the Romanesque Parish Church of Santa Maria Assunta, and beside the police station are the famous Logge designed by Giorgio Vasari. Twice a year, a historical reenactment called the Saracen Joust takes place here. Also in Piazza Grande, you can find the stalls of the Antiques Fair every first Sunday of the month, and from mid-November to late December, it hosts the famous Christmas market.
One of the most suggestive (and lesser-known) locations in Arezzo worth visiting is the Church of San Domenico. In the fourth episode, Don Rocco's murder takes place right in the square of the church, which is visited several times by Fosca Innocenti.
Some locations that quickly appear in the third and fourth episodes of our beautiful Arezzo include:
- Teatro Pietro Aretino, in Arezzo called "il Bicchieraia" because it is located in one of the most beautiful streets of the city called "via Bicchieraia," very close to Piazza Grande.
- During a motorcycle ride, you can see Giulia de Falco (Desirée Noferini) quickly passing in front of the Vasari Aqueduct (the arches) at San Cornelio, built between the 16th and 17th centuries to bring water to the center of Arezzo.
- The Vasari Logge in Piazza Grande are the setting for a romantic stroll between Fosca and Cosimo. Designed by Giorgio Vasari, they were built at the end of the 16th century.
